Lenoir City is a suburban city of 10,117 people (2020), mostly in Loudon County, on the Tennessee River southwest of Knoxville. TVA's Fort Loudoun Dam here forms Fort Loudoun Lake.

Bussell Island and General Lenoir

People lived on Bussell Island, across the river, as far back as the Archaic period, and the island is thought to be the village of Coste visited by Hernando de Soto in 1540. In the early 1800s North Carolina granted General William Lenoir a 5,000-acre tract here for his Revolutionary War service, though Judge David Campbell, who had built a log cabin and gristmill, disputed parts of it.
