Corryton is a bedroom community in northeastern Knox County, about 15 miles northeast of Knoxville, near House Mountain, the highest point in the county, and Clinch Mountain.

A railroad suburb that stayed rural

John Sawyers, a Revolutionary War veteran, settled near here in 1785 and built a small fort along the Emory Road, and Little Flat Creek Baptist Church, founded in 1797, was the first Baptist church in Knox County. When the Knoxville, Cumberland Gap and Louisville Railroad came through in the late 1880s, developer Corryton Woodbury bought land around the depot in 1887 hoping to build a suburban town, but the lots didn't sell and the community stayed rural.
